pretty in pink {and green}

I am loving Trish's Pink & Green Thursday over at her blog Pink Preppy Lilly Lover, and wanted to play along this week.

1.  Isn't this just so cute? If I was single, it might be tempting to pull something like this off.

2.  A friend gave me a sweet apron for Christmas that I love, but isn't this one so cute from FancyBoutique over on Etsy?

3.  I adore all types of tea towels, and aren't these so cute at Nanalulu's Linen Closet?  They are sold out for now, but they would be so sweet at Valentine's Day.

4.  I especially like these from Gaddie and Tood.  We ordered cupcake flags from her last summer for our daughter's mermaid birthday party and they were adorable.  I think my sweet little C would love the bunny!

My list of pink and green lovelies could go on and on but a sweet girl is ready to rise from her nap.  Time's up!

shoe organizers

A long time ago I saw a great idea in a magazine, about using a clear vinyl shoe organizer on the back of a hall closet door to replace that horrible junk drawer that you have in your kitchen.  I have often thought about this . . . but never implemented it.  One reason that stopped me was that it might look quite tacky when I open the closet door to hang up our guests' coats.  Hmmm.  Yeah, we don't hang our guests' coats in the closet; we put them on our bed.  So, what's stopping me?

Apartment Therapy had an article on it today.  Check out their pictures

This closet is quite enviable and a far cry from what we have going on here at Chez Pitts.  This is probably what would happen here:

Not quite as cute, but organized. Look at this similar organizer that they feature:
I actually have this exact thing!  It was given to me sometime in the early 90s (maybe a HS graduation gift?) and I found it at my parent's house recently with all my old jewelry in it from that era.  Nice.

spring celebration

During Lent this year, I attended a parenting workshop which was wonderful.  One of the things that I took away from it was the idea to be more celebratory.  In other words, taking every day life events and making them special.  Sooo, in an effort to do this more, we had a big celebration to welcome Spring back in March.  It was easy to get my little crew on board with this one!  And they had so much fun, that I thought I'd share.  Here is what we did . . .

We created a banner out of old scrapbook paper and I printed out the letters to spell "Spring".  Then we punched holes in the triangle shapes of the banners and strung a ribbon throughout so it could hang.  Then we decided we needed a garland (and I thought this would occupy my little sweetie for quite a while!).  She and I cut strips of scrapbook paper with various pastel designs and then we constructed it by creating rings, looping them through each other, and stapling them.  Very high tech!

I bought some white flowers at the grocery store and had my sweetie fill up some glasses with water.  Then, she dropped different colors of food coloring into each one.  She definitely loved this part!  We put the flowers in the water and hoped that they would soak up some of the color by dinner time . . . and they did!  Bonus, we decided that this would make an awesome science experiment for the science fair next year.

Finally, I had her make some little place cards, which turned out super sweet.  She used rocks from her strangely enormous rock collection to prop up the cards.  They each had our names and a flower that she drew.  Very cute.  I had enough left over flowers to put one in a small glass by each of the girls' place settings, sorry Daddy!  As you can see, it turned out so very sweet.   I bought some wonderful pink lemonade cakey cookies and we each had half of one for dessert.  Yummy!  All in all, a very festive Spring celebration that actually only took a few hours of crafty time with my girl to pull off.  She loved it.

The next morning, we all got up early and took a big walk to welcome Spring.  I had her go on a "scavenger hunt" to find each and every thing that meant Spring using her senses . . . ears, eyes, etc.  It was really so wonderful until the little people got tired of walking/being in the stroller . . . a bit of a whiny end to our Spring celebration!  Oh, well, there's always next year!

sister weekend

So we did actually shop the entire day and we also ate all sorts of stuff we shouldn't have.  My sister tempted me with a drink at LUNCH and I couldn't resist.  We each had a J.W.'s Pink Lemonade from The Cheesecake Factory and if you've ever wondered whether these are good, they are DELICIOUS.  I could've swam in it.  We went to many stores that had tons of treasures that we couldn't afford, but it was fun to pretend and dream.  I did find some lovelies at Ann Taylor Loft, which was having quite a nice sale, and these are a few of my finds:

The skirt is definitely not as short in real life because I am a little short in real life.  I love the t-shirt and the cardy, but obviously not together since they are the same color.  It was so relaxing to not have the kiddos for once.  Ahhh.  Then we had to kiss and hug and say goodbye and then our little people met us with kisses and hugs and slobbery hellos and we were back.

where to next

Mountains, originally uploaded by NintendoChick.
This is just delicious . . . it makes me shivery and happy all at the same time. Somewhere near Yosemite is a place called Bishop, California. I've never heard of it but if this is near it, then I must go. Because this is there

 and so is this

and then according to Google, this went down in Bishop, California in March of 2007

Can you tell I am suffering from wanderlust?  This place is now on my list of places to go, because not only is it beautiful but apparently is also fun.  Actually, the town of Bishop is pretty small but it's located near Bishop Creek east of the Sierra Nevada.  Wow . . .

smiling

"Peace begins with a smile . . . Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing." - Mother Teresa

Today I noticed so many things that made me smile.  I remember reading that some researchers did a study where they had people read the comics and then read the comics again with a smile on their face.  The second time they thought the comics were a lot funnier.  Do we smile because we are happy or are we happy because we're smiling?  I don't know the answer, but I don't think it matters.  It is so peaceful to have joy in my heart and have you noticed, the more you smile, the more peaceful you feel.  Seeing others smile back is a great feeling.  How happy am I to have such beautiful smiles to look at?

girl time

Very much looking forward to a mini-weekend away with my sister.  We get all of Saturday, Saturday night and part of Sunday.  Not much, but we'll take it!  I have been selling random crap on Craigslist/eBay to fund this little weekend and am getting excited about some beauty purchases (because I'm not getting younger here).  An interesting side note on the Craigslist thing is that the entry with the most intrigue has been a baby's orthotic helmet . . . and the Craigslist item with the most response has been my rusty 1986 12-Speed that hasn't been ridden in 20 years.  O-K.   Anyway . . . back to the beauty stuff.  I keep trying to get my sis to agree on a makeover at Sephora/Nordstrom but so far it's a no go.  We'll see what happens.  Here is what I want to buy:

for my sweetie

Lately our little family has amped up our usual Friday Pizza Night celebration by using our own pizza dough.  Before we used that stuff you get in a can, and I can tell you for sure that it is actually not that good.  Making your own dough is so easy, particularly if you have a bread machine.  We got one as a wedding gift and haven't really used it in, oh . . . about 10 years.  So, my sweetie pulled it out one day and said we can use this thing to make pizza dough.  O.K.  As surprising as it was to have my husband instigate using a bread machine, it has been an awesome change!  HE makes it on Sunday afternoons, and we freeze it to use for Friday night.  On Fridays around noon, I pull the dough out of the freezer and let it thaw/rise on the counter until dinnertime.  Then the kids climb up on the stools to help.  Our pizzas are turning out soo good . . . blowing the chain pizza places out of the water and even rivaling a real pizzeria.  Last week we used this Williams-Sonoma's San Marzano Pizza Sauce (which is not on their website, grrr).  It is phenomenal.  I think for Father's Day, I am going to get him this:

And this:

And maybe this:

It's time to take our little party outside!

Family Rule Signs

So . . . I am behind the times in blogland, but apparently everyone is abuzz about something called Family Rules Signs.  Basically, they are a special way to display the things that are important to your family.  You can either put very specific rules such as, "No throwing balls inside" or more general ones like "Do your best".  Or a mix of both.  Here are some nice ones that I've found.  They are all pretty different.

My favorite is the last one.  I like the whole Subway sign thing that some of them have going on, but I read their how-tos and let me tell you, those ladies spent a looooooonnnnggg time on those bad boys.  They are quite nice, but I know that won't happen for me.  That's one of the reasons I like the last one.  It's very colorful and bright, which is something I'm into lately and I can do it on the computer.  Bonus!  Plus, it will be fast and easy, here's hopin'.

Things to Love . . . EnV Bags

I received this great bag as a sweet surprise gift and I love it. They are called enVBags.  I keep mine in my purse and take it with me everywhere. It's not just a regular "shopper". It rolls up and then fits into a neat little pouch that zip up. It even has a little clip so you snap it onto a purse strap, etc. And, you wouldn't believe how much stuff you can fit into it! I cram it full of everything from Target to the grocery store. Plus, the straps on it are wide and don't bite into your shoulder. I think I am going to have to get another one.

They have a set of very cute bright ones . . .
Wouldn't I look great carrying one of these?
